ITANAGAR – Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today expressed his gratefulness to the people of the State for reposing their faith on the people-friendly government of the Congress by giving it the mandate with an overwhelming majority in the just-concluded Assembly elections.
The ruling Congress has won 42 seats, including 11 uncontested, in the 60-member State Assembly, the election for which was held on April 9 along with the Lok Sabha polls.
While Congress had managed to retain the Arunachal East Parliamentary seat with its nominee and former Union Minister Ninong Ering defeating BJP’s Tapir Gao by a margin of 12,478 votes, the party nominee and sitting MP Takam Sanjoy lost the Arunachal West seat to the saffron brigade’s Kiren Rijiju by 41,378 votes.
“People have reposed their faith on the Congress Government by electing 42 Cong candidates, including 11 unopposed, to the 60-member Assembly. This is an overwhelming majority and is the result of our developmental and pro-people activities in recent years,” he said in a statement here.
Tuki attributed the election success to the novel and ambitious programmes and schemes launched by the Congress Government over the years for development of the State and welfare of its people.
“Everything we did and achieved was placed before the electorates for themselves to judge and vote. We also placed our vision for the future through our election manifesto, which the people accepted wholeheartedly and therefore, placed their confidence on us,” he said and assured that every promise made in the manifesto will be fulfilled in the next five years.
Tuki, who had won his Assembly seat from Sagalee unopposed, reiterated that with the election process complete, it was now time to work together in the interest of the State irrespective of party affiliations.
“The people have done their duty. Now it is our – every elected representative – turn to fulfill our duty towards the people. Let us now put aside our differences and work in tandem for overall development of the State and welfare of our people,” he appealed.
Tuki also congratulated all the elected representatives and gracefully accepted the verdict given by the people, where the Congress faltered.
