REASONS BEHIND NABAM TUKI’S SUCCESS

The Lok Sabha fight is over. What remains are dismayed Congress and an overwhelmed BJP. So, as the swearing in ceremony went by Congress were left disconsolate and neglected even by its own allies. Amid such dismal performances at the centre it seems all is not lost for Congress.
Against all odds there is a pillar of strength standing tall at the far-East for them. Arunachal Pradesh the north eastern state of India is unflared with the waves that captured the mood of public all over India.
Though the Congress and BJP shared two Lok Sabha seats, it was the assembly poll that reflected the true sentiments of people. Congress retained its majority in the simultaneously held Assembly elections with a vote share of 49.5 per cent. Congress retained power for the third consecutive term after a landslide victory winning, 42 seats in the 60-member Assembly in the just concluded polls.

Veteran Congress leader Nabam Tuki was sworn-in as the eighth Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh for the second consecutive term. Behind the scene there was something in common between the victory of Narendra Modi and Nabam Tuki i.e. was a is development model ensuring growth of the state and an accessible Chief Minister who could listen to grievances of  his people and ensure rapid solutions. Nabam Tuki during his election campaign talked about how his development and good governance model fueled the growth of Arunachal Pradesh and empowered people of the state.

His clean image and public connect gave him an edge over his opponents. And with the changing trends and voters sentiments, it’s the performance that wins you an electoral mandate. Development of Arunachal Pradesh speaks volumes of Tuki’s ability as a Chief Minister. As per empirical studies;

q  Overall state domestic product registered a 14.4% increase between 2010 and 2013

q  Arunachal Pradesh is at Top with 177.9 $ Billion Investment in the industrial sector

Sector with the highest proportionate increase in productivity are Banking and Insurance, which grew by almost 24 % between 2010 and 2011 and 41.5 % between 2010 and 2013.
Ushering a new wave of development through a slew of inventive initiatives Nabam Tuki led Congress government came out with some comprehensive flagship programmes to achieve the goal of inclusive development. These programmes included sector such as;

q  Chief Minister’s Skill Development Programme, aimed at improving employability in youth and developing skills, alone generated 20,500 employments in previous year. Moreover the centre’s MGNREGS helped in employment of more than 1 lakh people.

q  Agriculture & Allied Sector showed 9.2% rise in the total crop production in 2012-13.

q  Chief Minister’s Paryatan Vikas Yojana, aimed at promoting tourism. Under this project subsidized cabs were provided to unemployed youths to promote tourism entrepreneurship, also the government is developing tourism infrastructure to make Arunachal Pradesh a face of North East tourism.

q  Also government has taken various initiatives to encourage quality education in the state. Many awards have been announced to recognize the efforts of teachers and schools.

Along with these initiatives Nabam Tuki ensured frequent public presence which helped his image of a “common man”. The agenda of development during the assembly polls and faith in the good governance earned him the trust of the voters. His government delivered on all possible fronts which made sure that people look up to him as an architect of state’s development.

Now the new government’s top most priority will be to work for development of all types of communication in the land-locked hilly state, youth development and employment generation, and to execute all the ongoing projects on health and education sectors. And it is believed that the Nabam Tuki-led Congress government will continue to work for the welfare of the common masses and take the State forward in terms of development in all spheres.
