Arunachal Pradesh Hydro Power Capacity

The State of Arunachal Pradesh is the eastern most Indian state and popularly known as the "land of the rising sun.

The topography of the state provides for ideal conditions for development of hydro-electric power projects. There are few major river basin in the state viz Kameng river basin, Subansiri River basin, Siang River basin and Lohit River Basi. Also, many more river systems in the state also offer very favorable sites for hydro power projects. Almost all major river system flow in the north-south direction and ultimately drains into the Brahmaputra. According to the Central electricity Authority (CEA), the total potential from 89 major projects is estimated to be about 49,126MW. The combined potential from micro, mini and small projects is estimated to be about 1600MW.  If the available potential is harnessed to the utmost, the state could be floating in “Hydro dollars” the way Arab Countries are floating in “Petro Dollars”

PM’S 50,000 MW HEP INITIATIVE: - the central Govt; has also identified 42 schemes in the state with an installed capacity of about 27,293 MW, for preparation of the preliminary feasibility reports (PFRs).
The schemes thus identified in this state alone, are more than 50% of the PM’s 50,000 MW hydro initiative.
