Itanagar: Union rural development minister Gopinath Munde on Tuesday died of multiple internal injuries and cardiac arrest suffered following a road accident in central Delhi early in the morning.
64-year-old Munde, who made his entry into the Union Cabinet for the first time last week, was on his way to the airport when his Maruti Suzuki SX4 car was hit by a Tata Indica car at Prithviraj Road-Tughlak Road intersection in the heart of the capital.
Munde was taken to AIIMS trauma centre at 6.30am by his personal assistant and driver and was declared dead at 7.20am.
The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma and Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today expressed shock and grief over untimely demise of Gopinath Pandurang Munde, Union Minister and a dynamic National leader.
The Governor conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family on behalf of people of Arunachal Pradesh and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.
In his condolence letter to Pradnya Munde, wife of Late Gopinath Pandurang Munde the Governor said that Late Munde was a committed leader who constantly worked for the Nation and for the cause of the weaker sections of the society. His contributions to the State of Maharashtra and the Nation will always be remembered by the people of the country.
The Governor further said that in his passing away, people of the country have lost a distinguished political personality and it has caused an irreparable loss to the Nation.
In a condolence message to the bereaved wife Pradnya Munde, Tuki said that in his death, the nation has lost a veteran BJP leader, who served the country in different capacities. Besides, proving his calibre in governance by holding the post of Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Late Gopinath Munde was Deputy Leader of opposition in 15th Lok Sabha. He made his entry in the Union cabinet for the first time this year after 2014 Lok sabha elections.
The OBC face of BJP, Late Gopinath Munde, who hailed from a poor family, was a grass root leader and a dedicated social worker who tirelessly worked for the backward classes and farmers of the country. “It pains my heart to write to you at this moment of extreme grief. I humbly endure to share with you the saddest times of your life though I know that it would be hard to do so and ease the pain you and your family are going through,” the Chief Minister said in his message and extended solidarity on behalf of the people of Arunachal Pradesh with the bereaved family members.
The leaders and workers of state BJP have deeply mourned the tragic demise of Union Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Gopinath Munde in a car accident in New Delhi today morning.
“I am deeply shocked and saddened by untimely demise of Munde at the peak of his political career, His death is a big blow not only to the party but also entire nation. The vacuum created by his death in the country’s political field, particularly Maharashtra, will be difficult to fill,” said state BJP president Tai Tagak in a condolence message.
Munde was known as messiah of the poor and underprivileged. Hailing from backward Banjara community from Maharashtra, he served the nation in various capacities. He was also deputy chief minister of Maharashtra and elected twice as the Member of Parliament, Tagak informed.
A true patriot, great statesman and politician par excellence, Munde’s death is a great loss for the country, Tagak said.
The party leaders and workers in a condolence meeting in the party headquarters here today observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect to late Munde and prayed to almighty to rest his departed soul in eternal peace.
