Want To Make Itanagar A Crime Free Capital: Home Minister

Aadil Mir, ITANAGAR, June 16: Home Minister Tanga Byaling has said that his first and foremost priority is to “rectify” the twin capital town of Itanagar and Naharlagun on law and order front to make it a crime-free capital.

Holding a discussion with the Councilors of Itanagar Municipal Council here today to elicit their opinion on how to put things right in the capital.
Taking it as a “big challenge”, he uttered “why peace and order can’t be restored in the capital” and urged all the stakeholders including the councilors to bear the “collective responsibility” for an effective policing.
Acknowledging the various suggestions put forward by the councilors and top-ranking civil and police officers, the Home Minister reiterated his zero-tolerance stance to crime, saying “I will not tolerate the law-breakers – be they relatives of Ministers/MLAs or higher-ups or any officers. Moreover, police and magistrates should not show any leniency to criminals.”
He also assured to establish police beat posts in at least 15 out of 30 wards in Itanagar municipality to keep a vigil on law-breakers. To another suggestion, he said that half of the crimes and law and order problems will be minimized upon installation of CCTV cameras and high-mast lighting system in vulnerable points.
While commenting that Itanagar was the “mirror” of Arunachal Pradesh, Parliamentary Secretary for Home, Likha Saaya said we can transform the face of Itanagar by putting our joint efforts to make it a crime-free capital.
Heeding to the call from the Home Minister, all the councilors led by their Chief Councilor Higio Aruni turned out for today’s meeting and expressed their desire to be an active part of the machinery for upkeep of law and order situation, besides sharing their grievances and suggestions.
